Sierra Del Rio Golf Course
The former Oasis golf course was closed in 2003, and BASCOR was retained to work with Dick Phelps (golf course architect) to provide design services for a new Planned Unit Development around the golf course, and redesign the course by improving drainage and access to the course. BASCOR developed new wetlands using existing lowlands and eliminating invasive species. A new drainage concept using natural groundwater was designed by BASCOR to supply the wetlands area with constant surface flows, resulting in native species reappearing and forcing out the invasive species of plants.
BASCOR developed drainage concepts with Dick Phelps which have survived three major (50 year+) thunderstorms, while the surrounding areas have been damaged by the resulting runoff. The course included elevated bridge crossings for the cart paths over three major arroyos, and sediment traps to capture sediment from upstream and re-use it in sand traps, thus keeping it out of Mims Lake, making water quality better in the area.
The golf course was re-built and grown in using organic products to redevelop the soils, and start the new grasses. This process has resulted in using less water for the course. The driving range was constructed over a former landfill operated by Truth or Consequences, and Sierra County after BASCOR completed a closure of the landfill with the New Mexico Environment Division and designed a driving range as a cap over the former landfill.
